West Austin Hit & Run Trial Begins Today With Jury Selection

Jury selection has begun for the former state Legislative staffer charged with manslaughter in a fatal Tarrytown hit and run accident.

Prosecutors say Gabrielle Nestande was driving on Exposition Boulevard on May 27, 2011 when she hit and killed 30-year-old Courtney Griffin.
Griffin had been jogging. Her body was found on the side of the road hours after the crash.

Investigators say evidence led them to Gabrielle Nestande and her car. At first she was charged with failure to stop and render aid.  A year and a half after the accident, charges were upgraded to manslaughter and intoxication manslaughter.

There are 48 potential jurors in the jury pool.  The trial is expected to take two weeks.
