Late Night AISD School Board Meeting Tackles Bond Package and Plans For Eastside High School
You may want to get a nap in today if you plan to attend tonight's Austin ISD school board meeting. The two most important items on the agenda will be taken up pretty late. Scheduled for 10:25 PM: "Adoption of an order calling a 2013 bond election." The Austin school board met over the weekend to tweak the package ... Adding another nine million dollars to bring the total to $892 million. Tonight the school board may also look into whether May 11th is too soon to present such a huge bond package to the voters and to drum up the necessary support for it.
And even later in the evening-- tentatively scheduled for 10:55 PM-- the school board has scheduled "Approval of the timeline for options regarding the formulation of a plan for Eastside Memorial High School and the Eastside Memorial vertical team." AISD is afraid the state make take control of the school after plans collapsed to turn the struggling high school into a charter school. But a TEA spokesman says the state education commission wants to see AISD’s alternate plan now that the charter school is a no-go. The plan would also affect the vertical team which is the group of elementary and junior high schools that feed Eastside Memorial.
