Crews battle Lago Vista Brush Fire

Crews battled a brush fire near the Lago Vista airport in north Travis County Tuesday afternoon.

Fire officials say it started at around 2 p.m. and grew to about five acres.

It jumped a road close to the airport at around 4 p.m. and emergency crews briefly considered evacuations for about a dozen homes about a half mile away before they were able to gain the upper hand on the fire, according to the ESD2 Lago Vista Fire Department chief.

Firefighters with Lago Vista, Cedar Park and Leander worked the blaze. A STARFlight helicopter was used to help fight the flames.

The fire was 60 percent contained at 5 p.m. Crews are being posted around it for the night to make sure it doesn't expand.
