Shooting At Elgin Party Leaves One Dead

According to the Elgin Police Department two people were shot at a party Sunday night. One person died.

The 911 call came in at approximately 8:40 p.m. Upon arrival, officers found a 42-year-old Hispanic male with a gunshot wound to his back. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Pascual Sanchez  Carbajal (pictured), of Pflugerville, was held down by witnesses at the scene.

Police say shortly after EMS arrived, the victim, identified as Hilarion Alvarado Crieta of Manor, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A second victim is described as a Hispanic female that received a gunshot wound to her leg. She was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

According to a statement from the Elgin Police, the suspect and male victim went to a party at 126 South Highway 95 earlier in the day. The party was reported as a celebration for a confirmation that took place Friday evening. Many of the attendees were juveniles ranging from 1 year to 16 years old.

Witnesses at the party said the gunman went back to the vehicle around 8:30 p.m. and got a .45 caliber pistol. When he came back to the party, witnesses say he shot the victim in the back. He then turned the gun on the crowd, shooting at least twice at others. Witnesses also say the gunman tried to turn the gun on himself, but others at the party detained him until police got there.

Police say there is no motive for the shooting at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
