Backers Of Anti-gay Ban Pray Near Scouts Offices


IRVING, Texas (AP) -- About 150 people have prayed outside the Boy Scouts of America headquarters in suburban Dallas against lifting a ban on gay members and leaders.
 
The more than hourlong rally Wednesday in Irving came shortly after national group leaders delayed until May a decision on letting troops decide whether to allow gay membership.
 
Rally participants sang "God Bless America" and recited the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Signs scattered through the crowd said "Don't invite sin into the camp" and "Who sets the agenda for BSA?"
 
Some children wearing Scout uniforms were also present.
 
Volunteer officers of the BSA's National Executive Board sought more time to review the issues. Leaders will prepare a resolution for the 1,400 voting members of the national council to consider when they meet in May in nearby Grapevine.
