Wireless Company Increases Efforts To Make Streets A No Text Zone

We've seen apps before that silence your phone when you're in motion.  But AT&T Wireless is going a step further and pre-installing the technology in their newest phones.

The Pantech Discover which was just introduced a couple of weeks ago has it preloaded.  It's called DriveMode and AT&T Spokeswoman Briana Gowing explains how it works, "If you're driving more than 25 mph and you get a phone call or a text, the person contacting you will get a message back saying that you're busy driving and that you'll contact them as soon as possible."

DriveMode is part of a nationwide safety campaign by the wireless carrier.  The effort includes a traveling simulator that shows just how far a car can travel in the few seconds you take your eyes off the road to glance at a text.

The texting-while-driving simulator will be making nearly 400 stops across the country this year, and AT&T has commitments from handset makers HTC and Samsung to include the DriveMode app in their next phones.  Word is spreading that it's time to make our streets a "No Text Zone."
