Lawsuit Challenging Travis County Prop 1 Dismissed

A federal judge has dismissed the lawsuit challenging the proposition that will fund a medical school in Austin.

Opponents challenged the wording of the Travis County proposition. They argued Central Health made adjustments to Prop 1 that the Department of Justice had not approved. The lawsuit also contended the proposition is over the word limit allowed by the Texas Legislature and uses "advocacy language."

Central Health, the area's hospital district, says Judge Lee Yeakel dismissed the lawsuit Thursday. The judge's order gives the agency the option to get attorney's fees back from those who sued.

Proposition 1 passed in the November election. Voters approved a property tax to provide expanded healthcare services, including support for a new medical school and teaching hospital.
