Truck Falls Off 100ft Cliff Killing 2

Two people died when a pickup truck drove off a cliff in west Travis County overnight.

The crash happened at 1300 Pace Bend Road North.  Authorities received the first call about it at 12:30 a.m. Sunday. Fire officials believe the accident happen sometime between 10 p.m. and midnight.

Lt. Steve Rudkin with Pedernales Fire Rescue said the truck fell off a 100 foot cliff and landed 50 feet from the water’s edge. It took a 45 minute search to find it.

“The truck had three people in it, two of which did not survive,” said Rudkin.

The lone survivor was trapped in the pickup truck. He used his cell phone to call 911. The man was airlifted to University Medical Center Brackenridge.

Rudkin said crews had a difficult time getting to the truck due to its remote location and heavy rain.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident.
