Austin Energy Installing Solar Panels on Palmer Events Center

One of the most visible solar projects in Austin is being installed today by Austin Energy contractors Solar Community at the southwest end of the Palmer Events Center on Barton Springs Road.

Because of the slope of the roof, the solar installation is visible in full view from the ground including the adjacent Butler Park and by passing motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians along the street.

The 244-kilowatt system is the 58th municipal solar installation by Austin Energy. Municipal solar projects are installed at libraries, recreation centers, and other public buildings to create awareness in the community about solar energy.

As part of the project, a video monitoring system will be installed in the lobby of the events center to enable the public to view the electric production by the solar system real-time. The system will produce enough clean, renewable energy annually to power the equivalent energy used by more than 30 average-size homes in Austin year-round.
