SXSW Band's Instruments Stolen In South Austin


One South by Southwest band is fighting back after getting all of their instruments stolen in South Austin.

Pillage & Plunder call themselves a three piece art rock band.

Noah Kess, Gokul Parasuram, and Hsiang-Ming Wen traveled from Atlanta to Austin in hopes of a big break at the festival.

With six shows on their SXSW tour, the music stopped Thursday morning.

"You can really see what you are made of out here because the best come here for this week," said Parasuram.

The three guys found out their locked trailer had been opened and everything stolen. It was parked outside the 700 block of Woodward Drive, the apartment they were staying at.

"Yesterday we hit up a few pawn shops to see if the people were not patient enough and started pawning things, but no luck," said Wen.

It was $16,000 worth of equipment. The band tells us some items are irreplaceable.

"The one gear I miss the most is an acoustic guitar my parents gave me when I was 14. It's just something I've grown up with and written so many songs with," said Wen.

Since SXSW started there have been about 30 car break-ins a day, according to Austin Police.

"Property is really hard to trace. Cases will be assigned to detectives. They are going to follow up on everything possible," said Cpl. Anthony Hipolito.

Until then Pillage & Plunder says the show must go on.

"Bands have been sympathizing with our situation and they have been generous," said Wen.

The band put their story on Facebook, where there have been thousands of shares and hundreds of comments.
