AFD: Man Impersonating Fire Inspector

Investigators with the Austin Fire Department say a man claiming to be a fire inspector scammed a local business out of several hundred dollars – and they think he's done it before.

AFD's Fire Marshal's Office says the man made off with $200 from a local business manager. "Due to the specifics of this individual's actions, the steps he took, and what he said and did, we believe this may not be the first time this has happened," said Battalion Chief Aaron Woolverton, who oversees AFD’s Investigations section.

The suspect is described as:
Hispanic male, 30 to 40 years of age
6'2" to 6'3" tall
275 to 300 pounds
Short hair
Wearing gray sweatshirt, black colored jeans, and brown construction boots

According to investigators, the impersonator also used the company names of Fire Boss, Dragonfire, and City Fire Prevention. Several receipts have been collected with the “City Fire Prevention” company name written upon them.

AFD is asking any business owner or manager who has had any interaction with the suspect to call investigators at 512-974-0240.
