New Study Highlights Dangers Of Texting While Driving

Texting while driving continues to take its toll. The Centers for Disease Control finds that while the number of deaths on the road decreased overall from 2010 to 2011, the number of people whose deaths were blamed on distracted driving rose.

And a new study out of Australia backs up an earlier experiment that compared texting while driving with drinking while driving.

The study tested reaction time, speed deviation and lane changes for drivers who were focused on their driving, drivers who were texting and drivers who had been drinking. The Australian study found that drivers who were texting did as poorly as drivers who were 25 percent above the legal alcohol limit.
