Austin Paramedics Deliver Baby On Side Of Road
One Pflugerville baby boy's arrival into the world caught his parents and Austin-Travis County Emergency Management paramedic by surprise.
Manessah Garcia of Pflugerville woke up at 2:30 a.m. Thursday. Garcia said she was having contractions that were four minutes apart. She decided to freshen up and take a quick shower before heading to the hospital.
By the time Garcia got to the shower her contractions were only one minute apart. With time ticking, she told her husband, Kenneth Garcia, "Someone should come get me and take me to the hospital or this baby is going to be born in the bathtub!"
Kenneth called the ambulance and paramedics arrived and helped lift Manessah out of bathtub. In the ambulance trip to St. David's Round Rock Medical Center, the baby decided it was his time. The paramedics pulled over near SH 130 and SH 45. The driver went to the back to assist. Paramedics delivered Ari Taylor Edward Garcia at 6:03 a.m.
Ari weighed in at 9 pounds one ounce. Ari also has a 2-year-old brother that got to take an unexpected car ride behind an ambulance with his dad.
Ari's mom Manessah says Ari is, "Just perfect."
Congratulations to the Garcia family and job well done to the fine Austin-Travis County EMS Team.
