Elderly Woman Dies In East Austin Auto/Pedestrian Crash
Police say an elderly woman died Saturday from injuries she received when she was struck by a car as she was crossing a street in East Austin.
The crash happened Wednesday, March 13 at around 2 p.m. at the intersection of Chicon Street and Cesar Chavez Street.
Investigators say a 2011 Chevrolet Impala was attempting to turn from eastbound Cesar Chavez Stret to northbound Chicon Street when it struck the victim – identified only as a 72-year-old woman. She was walking on the sidewalk and was attempting to cross the street to the east curb line of Chicon Street at Cesar Chavez Street when she was struck.
She was transported to University Medical Center Brackenridge with life-threatening injuries. She died on Saturday, March 16 as a result of the injuries, according to police.

This is Austin's 19th fatal traffic crash and the 20th traffic fatality of 2013. At this time in 2012, there were 15 traffic fatalities.
