Woman Charged For Allegedly Slapping Child Over Scooter

Police say a woman slapped a child in the face because she said the scooter he was playing with behind an East Austin church was hers.

It happened last month outside the Cristo Rey Church in the 2200 block of East 2nd Street.

Court documents say 50-year-old Esperanza Sanchez approached the 10-year-old boy as he was waiting for his mother. She pointed to his scooter and said, "That's mine," and then slapped him in the face.

The boy started crying and the arrest affidavit says she even tried to kick him before she walked off. A witness at the scene followed her and called 911.

She's charged with injury to a child, a third degree felony. She has not yet been arrested.
