NY Mom With Baby Falls 8 Stories, Dies; Baby OK

Police say a woman holding her baby boy plunged eight stories out of a New York City apartment window to her death in an apparent suicide and the baby survived.
 
Cynthia Wachenheim was discovered by police Wednesday; her baby Keston was in her arms. The police officer who responded took the baby to a hospital, where he was listed in critical but stable condition.
 
The baby is 10 months old. A hospital spokeswoman says she has no immediate information on his condition.
 
Police say Wachenheim was pronounced dead at the scene. A seven-page suicide note was found inside under the bed. The apartment window was wide open, and there were no signs of struggle inside. There were no safety bars on the windows of the upper Manhattan apartment.
