17 Sue Carnival Cruise Lines in Dallas Federal Court

More than a dozen of the passengers on the Carnival Cruise ship Triumph have filed suit against the company.

A fire in the engine room stranded the passengers for five days. Tug boats had to drag it to Mobile, Ala.

"The lawsuit describes the days of horrific and sickening conditions aboard the ship," according to the passengers' lawyers, Windle Turley and T Nguyen.

They say Carnival's negligence led to the near engine fire and conditions their clients endured for five days.

"When people pay money and place their lives in the hands of a cruise line, they have a right to expect safe and humane treatment. They received neither in this near disaster. They were made to endure unreasonable conditions and to think they might die. This cruise line must do better," Turley said.
